FAQS About Teeth Whitening

Q: Does Teeth Whitening really work?

A: Of course it does! The surface of the teeth contains millions of microscopic pores, and over the years, organic compounds from food, fizzy drinks, tea, coffee or tobacco penetrate these pores causing discoloration of the tooth enamel.

Q: How does the Smile Shop treatment compare to other whitening options?

A: The Smile Shop offers the most advanced technology available in teeth whitening. Clinical studies have proven that The Smile Shop treatments can whiten an average of 8+ shades in 1 hour. Compare this to a leading tray system, which achieved only 6 shades and took weeks. In fact, many tray users never achieve even a few shades, as it is difficult to complete the regimen - night after night sleeping with trays full of bleaching gel, often accompanied by sensitivity and gum irritation. Incidentally, the same study showed that a leading whitening toothpaste was only able to achieve 1.5 shades of improvement after an entire month of use.

Q: Does Laser teeth whitening work on veneers, crowns, bridges and fillings?

A: The laser teeth whitening procedure will not whiten crowns, veneers, bridges or fillings however they will be restored to their original colour. Dead teeth or teeth with nerve damage will not whiten.

Q: Does Laser Teeth Whitening damage the enamel of the teeth?

A: Research shows there is no risk to the enamel of the teeth after having a laser teeth whitening treatment.

Q: How does it work?

A: The Smile Shop technician will first examine your teeth and gums for good oral health. Next, our exclusive power cleaning gel is applied to your teeth this will virtually eliminate all procedural sensitivity by hydrating the tooth surface,( the power gel also helps to accelerate the whitening process), whitening gel is then applied and the lamp is placed in position for a timed session of 10 - 15 minutes, this is repeated 2-3 times.

Q: Is it safe and will it hurt?

A: The procedure is completely safe. The whitening gel will not damage enamel or existing fillings.

Q: How white will my teeth get?

A: The Smile Shop procedure has been able to achieve over 8+ shades whiter on average. Your results of course will vary as your starting point may be different and everyone's teeth respond a little differently, but in virtually all cases, the results are dramatic. Ultimately, the goal will be to achieve your optimum, natural whiteness.

Q: How long does it last?

A: The long-term results depend primarily on the individual. Certain habits, such as the use of tobacco products, drinking a lot of coffee, tea, dark soft drinks, and infrequent visits to the dentist for regular cleanings, can work against the results. Regular professional care and use of the take home after care kit can help maintain your whiteness for 1-2 years. Some people prefer to visit The Smile Shop for interim whitening treatments approximately every 3-4 months.

Q: Is this procedure for everyone?

A: Virtually anyone wanting to whiten his or her teeth can benefit from using The Smile Shop treatment - including people with severe food, coffee, tobacco or tetracycline stains. Young adults 16 years of age and older are great candidates for the procedure, especially for those that have heavy staining after orthodontic treatment is complete and their braces are removed. The Smile Shop recommends that you not do this process while nursing or pregnant, receiving orthodontic treatment, or have extensive dental work, such as veneers or crown/bridges.
