A year ago Matt and Fiona spotted a small lump in the small of Sam's back. A subsequent visit to the family GP and Sam was referred to the hospital so doctors could examine the suspect lump. What followed was the most "devastating day of our lives." Sam was diagnosed with a germ cell tumour on his spine.

"The following weeks were a blur of scans and tests. It was so hard to understand what was happening to our little boy. Then we met Jane, our CLIC Sargent nurse. She offered me and Fiona her support and somehow managed to calm our fears – which couldn't be easy for her."

Instead of us wasting hours in traffic, worrying about getting Sam to the hospital on time – all for a 20 minute blood test. Jane would take Sam's blood at our home. It was such a relief and we could all focus our energy on helping Sam get better and spending precious time together as a family."
