In May 2005, Abbie had been complaining of a sore knee and it was slightly swollen.
In July Abbie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Abbie's mum Libby says
"The chemo really knocked Abbie out. She was exhausted. Some days Abbie couldn't
even get up to have a wash. Sam the CLIC Sargent play specialist would visit the
ward and come and see Abbie and Libby".

Katy, 11, was diagnosed with leukaemia just before Christmas 2005. Her mum, Kim
explains: "I took Katy to the doctors because she wasn't quite herself. They originally
thought it was glandular fever but a blood test, taken just in case, revealed something
quite different - something we weren't expecting."

Matt and Fiona: "A year ago Matt and Fiona spotted a small lump in the small of
Sam’s back. A subsequent visit to the family GP and Sam was referred to the hospital
so doctors could examine the suspect lump. What followed was the most “devastating
day of our lives.” Sam was diagnosed with a germ cell tumour on his spine."
